26 DECEMBER 2014

I am absolutely fascinated by New Orleans, Louisiana, I have never been there but it is at the top of my list of places to visit.

It was also the inspiration for my mom's birthday lunch.

The guests were welcomed with delicious New Orleans inspired cocktails, Cajun Bloody Marys and Hurricanes.  It was delicious!

The starters included Muffaletta dip (inspired by the famous Muffaletta sandwich) with toasted French baguette and French Onion Dip (inspired by the French Quarter) with crudites.

We decorated the wall with prints of the famous artist George Rodrigue's "Blue Dog" as well as letter art of the lyrics of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World", they are both New Orleans icons.  The table setting included black & white prints of New Orleans scenery and historic buildings as placemats, a "Blue Dog" menu and Mardi Gras beads.

On the menu for the main course was delicious BBQ prawns with lemon, fresh French baguette, dirty rice, chicken & okra gumbo and Creole tomato salad.

We served the most delicious (and sweet!) New Orleans pecan nut praline chocolate brownies for dessert.
