Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was signed on 4 July 4 1776, establishing the United States of America.
Why do we celebrate it in South Africa? We don’t! But it is a great reason to get together and spend time with family (especially if you have family living in the United States who you miss dearly) and have a backyard braai!
No fireworks though!!
